In Myanmar, Distance Education system has developed from University Correspondence course. University of Correspondence course started under the supervision of Yangon Arts and Science University in 1975-76 academic year. After the University of Distance Education came into existence on the 9th July 1992, Yangon University of Distance Education Library was set up at Thahton Road in Yangon on 1st January 1993 University of Distance Education Library stores text and study guide books, old questions, CDs, Video tapes and Audiocassettes are systematically maintained and kept for (19) specializations. Moreover, reference materials of books and periodicals have been bought and some have been got by donation.
The collection of YUDE is mainly for Distance Education Text and Study Guide Books and reference. The total collection comprises of:

General reference books like encyclopedia, almanacs, and dictionaries maybe read at the reference room.
Books and periodicals can be borrowed at Reading room but Current periodical may be read at the Reading room.
Since 2000, Electronic Library (ELIB) software has been used to record the library collecti-on. Electronic cataloguing is still being done to provide required services. About 25000 Eng-lish books and about 6000 Myanmar books have been updated in electronic database. It also provides Internet access and electronic books to scholars, teachers and researchers. It is avail-able Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) with MARC and Non-MARC forms. It provides powerful search by author, title, subject, keywords, Boolean and word search. In the near fut-ure, the online catalogue will be available for users.
Journal of Burma Society (JBRS) complete set of 59vols in full text (1911-1977): Proceeding of 1st. to 10th. Congress of Southeast Asian Librarian (CONSAL0; MHCL (Selective Work on Myanmar History, Culture, Archaeology and Literature after Independence with their abstracts is in electronic form and easily traced with powerful research.
